After a family is matched with their child, our agency posts a poem, giving clues as to who the parents are. After a good guessing match about the state the child will be going to and who the new family might be, we're able to introduce ourselves. As you can tell by the poem, Holly tried giving clues to rhyme with our last name. Our agency does extra "little" things to make every step along the way so special. Also, on the waiting child list they give the children Western names, usually following a theme. Wan Wen Yu was known on our agency's list as Nikki. The theme for that particular list of children was famous African-Americans. Nikki's name was chosen for Nikki Giovanni, a famous poet.
Here's our introduction poem:
Nikki, the Beauty is Going Home!
Nikki, such a lovely BEAUTY
With eyes so big and round.
You have a loving family
Who'll soon be coming to town!
Nikki, your home stateBorders on mine!
We have a playful rivalry.
But, I think you are fine!
Do you enjoy Cream and Scarlet?
Or do you prefer Silver and Gold?
No matter which,Love soon will take hold!
Your Mom and Dad can't wait
To have YOU for their daughter!
Your new state's name
Means "Flat water."
Nikki, you're a CUTIE,
In fact, you're just right!
In you, your Jie Jie
Will take such delight!
Will she show you music?
Like Blowfish, with HOOTIE?
When you dance around together,
You'll really move PATOOTEY!
When you are old enough
You'll gather an allowance.
When you put the coins in a bank,
You'll be saving all your LOOTIE!
Nikki, when you are crying
Mom and Dad will do DUTY
By blowing your nose
They'll be helping your SNOOTIE.
I can't figure out
How to work in Mom's "CC."
So I'll keep on TYPING
And just let that be.
Settle back, Nikki,
And wait just a while.
You'll soon be secure in family,
And we will all smile!
XXXOOO,Holly
Holly, Holly. I'm just bouncing in my seat chuckling at this poem. How cleverly you have embedded clues in the poem. So cleverly in fact that it's a hoot....or should I say hootie! Goodie, Goodie for Nikki! We are so excited to have Ms. Nikki on her way home and we would love to have her new family introduce themselves so we can all congratulate the new happy family.--Stefani Ellison
